Description

I had good clear seeing and only had to deal with the normal urban light pollution and a greater than normal "dew" problem due to the recent rainy weather. I did not get all the data I hoped for and will try to get more to add at a later date.  I quickly processed the image see what the data looked like and find out if the nebula was even included.

Sh2-174 is an unusual ancient planetary nebula located in the constellation Cepheus at a distance of 980 light-years.  At a magnitude of 14.74 it is dim, which  makes it difficult to image.  It is narrowband Ha and O3 and is processed HOO.

A planetary nebula is created when a low-mass star blows off its outer layers at the end of its life.  The core of the star remains and is called a white dwarf. Usually the white dwarf can be found very near the center of the planetary nebula but in the case of Sh2-174 it off to the right. (The brighter star near the center of the blue gas).
