Description

 This is an image of the galaxy NGC 3521 and surrounding background galaxies. NGC 3521, SAB(rs)bc, is a flocculent galaxy having a "woolly" appearance rather than a grand design spiral. It has a trace of a bar with a weak inner ring and a moderate to loosely wound arm structure. It is about 50 million light years distant.  There are various Quasars  visible in this image - the greatest lookback time is 11.37 billion light years with a redshift of 2.794 These objects, information, and some of the brighter stars are identified in the annotated image.
