Description

When preparing to take this photo, apart from its aesthetic value, I wanted to try to capture the so-called "tidal stream".

Yes - "tidal", which most people (at least me) probably associate with three popular galaxies from the Leo constellation, specifically NGC 3628 - the Hamburger Galaxy. Quite by accident, I found out that it is also next to "The Whale" galaxy NGC 4631, and its origin is unknown and it is barely visible/very difficult to catch in the photo. If my information is correct - it "came out" by accident in 2015 in photos taken with a 40 cm telescope (if I understood correctly - while searching the night sky with robotic telescopes).

Scientific article and attempt to explain the "tidal": https://iopscience.iop.org/article/10.1088/0004-6256/150/4/116 ("Tidal stream" most likely comes from two dwarf galaxies orbiting right next to NGC 4631).

I did it, it took me 10.5 hours of Luminance. On the Internet (Astrobin and others) I found only three amateur photos in which the "tidal stream" is visible.

A version with reversed colors and with the regions I was most interested:

I'm also very pleased with the detail in both galaxies - please view the revision B and C of the image for the details.

Material collected from May 4 to 9 this year from Nerpio, with my own equipment installed and configured personally at a remote observatory in Spain at AstroCamp under Bortle 2 sky.

If you want to try process the image yourself - all raw data and calibrated master light frames will be available to download soon at https://astrophotomarket.com/
