Description

Yeah finally got some clear skies to match up with a not so bright moon.   This is the first of 3 galaxies I captured.  The Sculptor is pretty low in the horizon and doesn't stay in my capture view very long.  This is taken with my 7.5" Mak/Newt and while I only capture around 30 minutes of data I thought it came out pretty decent.  I might add some NB/Ha data later.

Also, I have changed up my calibration from on my last few images, I read you really don't really need dark frames with the 2600 (as it is a low noise camera), so I am just using flats and bias instead of dark flats, plus I do dither.  It is a lot easier and I have not noticed much if any difference in the noise.  Not taking dark frames makes it easier to take advantage of cooler nights and crank down the camera temp without having to redo your dark library.  I am curious if any of you other 2600 users have switched from darks to bias

This Sculptor Galaxy also known as the Silver Coin Galaxy was discovered by Caroline Herschel (William's sister) in 1783 with 27" Focal length refractor, pretty amazing.  It is estimated to be 70,000 light year across, similar in size to the Milky Way and around 12 million light years away.
