Description

A lot of first lights here: for the GT-81 and for the S and O narrowband filters! On top of that three clear(ish) nights in a row is something unheard of in Manchester (UK)!

Instead of my usual one-target-per-night approach, I then manage to engage in a mini SHO narrowband project with the Jellyfish nebula.

The main obstacle was the 3m tall wall on the south-west side of my backyard that only gave me about 1.5h per night, from 9 pm to 10.30 pm, before the nebula was too low to imaging; at some point, I even raised the tripod - including a full polar realignment - to gain some extra tens centimetres that allowed me to stay over the wall and take a few more images!

In the end, I managed to collect about 3.5 hours of total exposure in 5 minutes subs (1:20 hour for each Ha, S-II and 1h with the O III filter). The O III data is pretty much useless, too weak, so I ended up using only S-II and Ha data. I mapped R --> S-II, G --> Ha, and B --> [Ha - S].

Not sure about the physical meaning of assigning the B channel to the difference of Ha and S, I guess blue regions in the image are those where the difference between the Ha and S signal is larger than everywhere else!

From the results, it's clear that at least 10 minutes subs were needed, but it was the first attempt, so quite happy anyway!
