Description

NGC 1365 (or the Great Barred Spiral Galaxy, or Majestic Spiral Galaxy) is a barred spiral galaxy in the constellation Fornax (furnace). A spiral galaxy, much like the Milky Way in which we reside, are flat disks typified by a dense core region with a 'galactic bulge' in the middle. A supermassive blackhole rotating close to the speed of light in the centre draws matter inward, while creating the rotation in the galaxy matter - collapsing it into a disk, and forming the central bar and spiral arms. The accreting matter swirling around the black hole creating a bright central core, while less dense stars, clusters and interstellar matter and gas form arms spread out in space.

NGC 1365 is located about 56 Million light years away, and measured along the length of the galaxy, about 200,000 light years wide.
