Description

The California Nebula nebula lies some 1000 light years away, in the direction of the outer Orion arm of our galaxy. This entire region of space is filled with galactic gas from which many massive and luminous stars have formed. The glowing portion of the nebula is about 100 light years in extent.  The  California Nebula, is a large but visually faint emission nebula in the constellation Perseus, which gets its name from its resemblance to the USA's most populous state.
