Description

Garlic Nebula / Popped Balloon Nebula (aka Abell 85 /CTB 1)

Well! this nebula has many names, one can choose the official name or the nick name which is easy to remember.

Its one of tough objects to image and do marathon processing to obtain a self satisfying decent result.

Abell 85 / CTB 1, is considered as a huge vague supernova remnant located in the constellation Cassiopeia.

Border of this nebula is crossing over to LBN 576 (Lynds Bright Nebula).

Though, George Abell considered this as a planetary nebula in his previous observation and

later recognised as a Super Nova Remnant.

CTB 1 designation stands for the radio source, clearly identified and with a well defined optical shell.

There is no much Oxygen, Sulphur and Hydrogen emission going on as the nebula has expanded into a vast a low density region.

In this wide field image, Abell 85 (Popped balloon or Garlic) and Sharpless 2-170 ( Little Rosette Nebula ) on the left are seen prominent.
