Description

30 December 2022: The Moon, with X and V.

I thought I'd have a final shot at imaging the moon this year. It's been clear and calm but I'm waiting for some more moonless nights to finish my current target, and I haven't been bothered to figure out what target I want to start imaging next - so, the Moon it is then.

I thought I'd have go using the SVbony SV105 camera that I've had laying around for a while, not being used. And stick a 2x barlow on for a 10x panel mosaic.

I was absolutely STUNNED to see I'd actually captured the lunar X and V (swipe to see those) which are transient phenomena only visible for a few hours whe the Sun/Moon/Earth angles are such that they produce these shaddows in the specific areas. Totally wicked!

Actually turned out better than I expected!

Skywatcher ED80, 2x barlow
SVbony SV105 camera
Acqusition in Sharpcap - don't know the settings because I wasnt paying attention.
10x panels of 3mins each
Stacked in AS!3, mosaic in LR.
Contrast and sharpening in PI
