Description

NGC 5033, also known as the Waterbug Galaxy, is a fine Seyfert (AGN) spiral galaxy residing 40-60 million light years distant.   The galaxy has wonderful texture, with broad arms seemingly above and below the plane of the central region.   A supermassive black hole that is not centered within the core is suggestive of a past merger with another galaxy.    The wider field has several nice smaller galaxies, but it is unknown whether these are true companions or just in the line-of-sight.

Description: Additional integration time (now 8.3 hours @f/2.2). I've elected to keep the field a bit wider and offset NGC 5033 to allow for a more balanced look of the irregular galaxies with the main topic.
