Description

This image is centered on the dark nebula LDN 564, located in the constellation of Serpens at a declination of -1 degrees.  Surrounding LDN 564 are numerous other obscure dark and bright nebulae.

I saw this portion of the sky in the Aladin sky atlas program and was intrigued by the combination of dark nebula, bright stars, and dense star fields in this part of the Milky Way

Some of the designated object highlights here includes the small dark nebula Barnard 316 in the lower left corner and the red emission nebula Sh2-64 in the lower right corner.

I like the thin, inky black, winding dark nebulae in the top portion of the image.   It is interesting to me that, of all of the dark nebulae seen in this image, the only one to make Barnard's list is the tiny one that is B316.

I am also fascinated by the dim undesignated ‘H’ shaped light nebula at 18:34:44 RA and -00:56:37 DEC.
