Description

A very unusual post

During a visit in Southern France (Dec. 2023), I had the privilege to be one of the very few to be allowed in the Research part of the Pic du Midi Observatory and see up-close some massive telescopes includng France's largest optical telescope. Located at 2877 m in the Pyrenees Mountains in Southern France this observatory is the birth place of computerized astronomy and of coronographs. It has several major pieces of equipment including:

1 - The Bernard Lyot Telescope (TBL, diameter 2 m, nominal focal length of 50,000 mm): Revision C
2 - The 1-meter Telescope (T1M, diameter 1 m, nominal focal length of 17,500 mm): Revision D
3 - The Coronagraph / Solar Refractor (diameter 20 cm): Revision E
4 - Jean Rösch Refractror (LJR, Aperture of 50 cm, focal length of 6,500 mm): Revision F
