Description

There isn't a ton of data on this object for some reason and it generally seems to be overlooked, despite it being large and a fairly bright 12.6 magnitude. Distances estimates from 2008 put it at just over 4000 light years away. However, the most recent Gaia mission parallax data for the central progenitor star (Gaia DR3 4261038467432411776) puts it at only 2900 light years away. The nebula is 1.3 x 0.7 arcmin, so assuming the Gaia based distance measurement is correct, the brightest part of the nebula seen here is about 1.1 lightyears across.

There is a fainter extended outer halo that is just hinted at here. A lot more narrow band data on a moonless night would be needed to show this well. Maybe sometime in 2023!

Each 9 minute sub was a Sharpcap live stack of  135 x 4 second exposures.
