Description

I was so looking forward to this time of year. One M42 started rising above my treeline (and at new moon, nonetheless), I had to start grabbing data. Last year, with the Edge 11, I committed myself to making a mosaic of it to only fail spectacularly for 2 reasons: I bit off more than I could chew on an 8 panel mosaic with the Edge 11 and not getting enough clear moonless nights.

This year, I wanted to attack this quickly with the Fra 500. The last time I shot this, I was on a Sony A7ii (non modified) on an SWSA 2i. I was happy with the results, especially as a beginner, but I really wanted to get all the dust in and with a proper astro cam. I went from 3 min subs to 10 seconds on each channel to allow a good HDR composition and get the trapezium to be visible.
