Description

I am fascinated by the "pillars of creation" type of formations near the cores of some nebula, IC1590 the Pacman Nebula is no exception.  I had a couple of clear nights but the Santa Ana winds kicked up...luckily no fires started.  My guiding RMS never got better than 0.8.   In this, I used an SHO image with 70% green removed with SCNR, and blended with an HOO image as I liked what I thought was more "natural" resulting color.  Ha as luminance.  For the stars, I used a pseudo RGB combination from the Ha, Oiii, Sii data (thanks Uwe!).  I used just a tad of Topaz noise reduction settings: low light noise reduction 4 (out of 100), sharpening 0, recover original detail 15, color noise reduction 5.  I like the speed and noise reduction of Topaz, but do not like the sharpening features.  "recover original detail" negates the sharpening.  My processing intention was to highlight the pillars.   This was a rewarding image to process...started from scratch 5 times.  I am pleased.
