Description

This spiral galaxy is located 50 million light years away in the constellation of Ursa Major at a declination of +47 degrees.  It which spans 6 arc-minutes in our apparent view.  This corresponds to a diameter of 90,000 light years.  The appears to as about 10 degrees from edge-on.

Although the near edge-on view obscures the disk structure, we are still able to see dark dust lanes and blue star clouds. A tint, or glow, from HII also seems to be present.  The disk appears to be slightly warped.

From our 10 degree angle, It is hard to see for us to see the disk structure.  I see some hints of a spiral structure, although it also looks somewhat flocculent.

The bright magnitude 3.7 star Chi Ursae Majoris is only 0.5 degrees north of this object and created some issues with processing.
