Description

This emission nebula named „Thors Helmet“ is located in the constellation Canis Major in a distance of about 15.000 light years. The special thing about this nebula is, that the gas doesn‘t get illuminated by an O-type star or a white dwarf (which is the case with most of the emission nebulae we know) but by the Wolf Rayet star which is located in the center. This type of star builds an enormous pressure of radiation and dashes matter into the intergalactic space at very high speed.
