Description

The Rosetta Nebula (NGC2237) is a giant molecular cloud visible in the constellation of the Unicorn and covers the sky roughly twice the size of the full moon. The open cluster in the center (NGC2244) is closely related to the nebula, its bluish stars formed from the material of the nebula made up of dust and gases. The nebula and open cluster are approx. It lies 5,000 light-years from Earth, and its diameter is roughly 130 light-years. Radiation from young stars excites atoms in the nebula, causing them to emit radiation themselves, creating the emission nebula we see. These stars are "very young" approx. They formed from the material of the nebula 4 million years ago, and star formation continues today. Massive and hot stars together produce a particularly intense stellar wind. This continuously blows the material of the fog outwards from the central part, and thus a shape similar to a giant bubble is created, which is also clearly visible in the picture.
