Description

This Astrobin Debut Object is a spiral galaxy located 55 million light years away in the constellation of Ursa Major at a declination of +52 degrees.  It is a magnitude 12 galaxy which spans 5 arc-minutes in our apparent view.  This corresponds to a diameter of 90,000 light years.

From our view perspective, the disk is inclined about 10 degrees from edge-on.  Dark dust lanes and blue star clouds are visible in the disk surrounding the unbarred galaxy, but the arm structure is tough to discern at this angle.  It appears to be flocculent.

The smaller edge-on galaxy to the upper right is UGC 6802.  This galaxy is further away at 85 million light years and is smaller at 60,000 light years in diameter.
