Description

The Running Chicken Nebula in HOO

I have always been fascinated about this target for some reason. Initially, it did take me a long while for me to work out how it looks like a running chicken, but after about nearly 3 years, I know why it gets it's name for lol.

This was shot on two nights nearly 12 months apart, each using the same camera and telescope, but the filter was different between them, with my first session using the Optolong L-eNhance and my second session I instead used my Optolong L-Ultimate for it's first light. I then combined the two datasets using WBPP which worked out pretty well I reckon.

I like how the Optolong L-Ultimate brought out the little areas of dark nebulae, including Thackery's Globules which are pretty small as I used my modified Canon 6D, plus I also think that the L-eNhance data has helped as well, although not as much as the L-Ultimate's data.

Now that IC 2944 is setting earlier each night, I will have to wait until next year to image it again, but I am more than excited for what different angles I can photograph of this unique nebula.
