Description

Like a lot of others, I always wanted to get my own image of the Orion Nebula. I've only very recently seen and recognized it with my Orion XT8 in the backyard despite always looking up at the constellation because it looks like a splotchy blob in the sky here. I originally wanted to get an HDR image but after the Andromeda early attempts, I'll put that on the backburner for later. I plan to add some dual narrowband data to this image in the future to see how it ends up. I could also image it again later in the winter when Orion rises above my power lines earlier in the night.

Editing this image and the Andromeda one, I really could see the difference integration time makes. In the early 1-2 hours I could not see anything aside from the main structure but now I can start to see the dust in the area. I also learned about how the background removal from affinity could be pretty troublesome so I'll need to look into changing up where it gets used.

Stacked in ASTAP and edited in Affinity Photo 2
