Description

Bode's Galaxy (M81) and the Cigar Galaxy (M82) are 12 million light years away in the northern constellation of Ursa Major. They are separated by only 150,000 LY, even closer than our distance from the Magellanic Clouds. Often imaged much closer up, this wide view spies these galaxies through IFN dust with some smaller galaxies also visible in the background.

Data was acquired from the DeepSkyWest Bortle 2 skies of New Mexico using a QSI583wsg camera and Rokinon 135mm f2 lens.

Thanks for looking and clear skies!
