Whew! This was a tough one to acquire and process! Serious respect to those who have done a great job on this one. Even at 12 hours of Ha and Oiii exposure per filter, it is still super faint. I do realize that a 3nm Ha filter is not ideal for planetary and a Nii could really contribute to this, but I decided to give it a go anyway.

The noise profile of this wasn't too bad at normal stretching, but I pushed the data hard to create more contrast between the foreground and background. I really had to ask myself what I could do to make this better. More integration time? BIN2 on CMOS? Work with a larger bandpass on the Ha filter? In any case, processing was challenging and fun.

After stacking and dynamic crop, I did DBE along with an initial Histogram transform. Then a round of denoise with two subsequent usage of Arcsinh stretch followed by denoise. It results in a bit of a splotchy background, but I tried my best to smooth the noise out with the aggressive stretching that was done. It's probably more on the overprocessed side, which I have been trying to avoid but it will serve as a benchmark as I revisit this target again.

Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.
Promotions by Submitters When 3 distinct Submitters promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for Top Pick status. This requirement, in addition to anonymization of images and distribution to only a subset of them, prevents biases and ensures that the best images are selected.

Early dismissal Staff members have a lot of images to inspect on a daily basis, and they can dismiss images if they believe they don't meet the requirements for IOTD/TP selection. If an image is dismissed 5 times, it's removed from the process. This streamlines the process and ensures that any bias present in promotions could be overruled by other staff members.
