Description

Jupiter and the medicean moons (Europa, Io, Callisto and Ganymede, left to right) imaged above the head of the Giordano Bruno monument in Piazza Campo de Fiori (Roma). The philosopher and astronomer was burned at the stake in that very place for affirming the heliocentric theory, in 1600. Four centuries later, and thanks also to his perseverance and sacrifice, the evidence supporting his revolutionary ideas can be easily captured on a cheap camera, at the only peril of getting in a fight with the animated crowd roaming this center of the roman movida.
Technical details: camera on a small tripod on the Piazza cobblestone. 600mm equivalent zoom, 1" exposure to minimize trailing, ISO 200. f/5 and focus on Jupiter to slightly blur Bruno's face.
