Description

I am not an aurora photographer, but I couldn't resist posting this one.

It was taken using my Canon 6D and Rokinon 14mm lens.  My Southern horizon has mountains extending up to an altitude of 15 deg, so I can't catch the aurora all the way to the horizon.  Nevertheless it was a good display and the red and purples are quite stunning. The photo is exactly how it came out the camera in RAW, with no processing.

As a bonus, I also include a picture of my observatory under the Milky Way taken the same night with the aurora still happening over the mountains.  The night was terrible for AP, with seeing so bad it was impossible to find any guide stars.

I named the observatory Antimony [and my vineyard around it] after the Antimony saddle you can see above it.
Not only chosen for its geographical connection, Antimony's chemical symbol (Sb) is also  my late wife's Shona's initials.  So it is another way I can remember her.
