Description

This image was a collaboration between myself here in Australia and Logan Carpenter (https://www.astrobin.com/users/DrKrud/) based in New Zealand.  We started this back in October and only finished the processing recently (December 2021).  Although we have the same camera, I have the OSC version, the 2600MC Pro whereas Logan had the mono version.  Scopes used here were the Skywatcher 120 Esprit on the mono setup and the Skywatcher 150pds(with l-eXtreme filter) on the OSC setup.

This meant we had to go about figuring how to combine the data from the two setups.  We we're however both happy with this end result and the detail and depth we managed to pull out, especially to bring some of the fainter Ha/Red signal.  Again working together in Pixinsight and Photoshop we managed to find a good balance for the image.

The Dolphin Head Nebula, catalogued as Sharpless2-308 is a massive bubble blown by fast winds from the hot, massive, Wolf-Rayet star near it's center.  It is approx 5,000 light years away and is estimated to have a diameter of 60 light years. Wolf-Rayet stars are thought to be in a pre-supernova phase of evolution and have over 20 times the mass of the Sun. This nebula is dominated by the glow of ionized oxygen atoms  (Ref: NASA).
