Description

This spiral galaxy is located 110 million light years away in the constellation of Ursa Major at a declination of +49 degrees.  It spans 4 arc-minutes in our apparent view.  This corresponds to a Milky Way size diameter of 120,000 light years.

The structure of this galaxy is interesting with 2 pseudo-rings, one around the mid-region and one around the outer edge of the disk.  Even at its distance away from us, small star clouds are apparent especially in the mid-region area.   The central yellow area contrasts with a subtle blue in the outer disk.

The most fascinating part of this galaxy to me are the  two similar and faint arm / star stream features that seem to "cross" the rings.  On the left side, a feature is seen which connects the outer ring  to the inner ring.  On the right side, a similar feature connects the inner ring to the core, and it very faintly continues to the outer ring as well.  Our view of the disk only 20 degrees from edge-on makes it difficult to understand what is happening here.
