Description

I was looking for something besides galaxies to image from my back yard over a period of several days of clear nights. I decided to see what I could get with IC443. I was able to image a little over 1 hour each night before it got too low for a total of just about 6.5 hours. Not much time and not the right equipment for the full experience but I stubbornly stuck in there just to see what I _could_ get. And here it is! The Jellyfish Nebula is the remains of a galactic supernova about 5000 light years from Earth that occurred between 3000 and 30000 years ago. I am sure I'll be imaging this again when I have a camera that can do it justice.

Description: A couple of EZ Star Reduction and made an interesting mask for sharpening based on Green and Blue channels only (extract each, combine, then extract lightness). It's hard with the stock camera and I don't want to push too hard but I think it's an improvement in that it shows what I could capture a bit better.
