Description

This is a fun one! I've wanted to image this object up close for a long time. The weather (and a segue into planetary imaging) have kept me from it.

I used my 152mm f/6.5 achromatic refractor for this one. Yep. You can use achromats for (some ) DSO imaging. Narrowband imaging doesn't care that the optics are only capable of rendering limited bandwidth in focus at a given time. I picked this scope up as-new for about 2/3 of the price because the original owner found it too heavy for them. I'd say it probably weighs as much as a 120-127mm triplet, but being a doublet it's still much lighter than my 10" RC or 11" SCT.

I did use a field flattener (TS RCFlat2) with this. It seems to have worked quite well. Measurements of FWHM or HFD eccentricity showed almost perfectly flat results.

I also used the new ZWO OAG-L for the first time, and I'm quite happy with that. Finally, an OAG that produces good guide stars over a large field and doesn't use screwy dovetails!
