Finally, on the very last day of this horrible 2020, I'm publishing a new image hoping for a better 2021...

I was able to spend an entire winter night shooting at just this subject togheter with my friend Maurizio Mollica. We where lucky enough to spot one single night of good weather in Italy on this December. We went to a quite dark place where trasparency was good enough to make an attempt at this faint dusty nebula. The seeing was not good (between 4" and 5") and also some very thin clouds passed along the night. Humidity was high in the sky so some scatter has happened to many frames but I decided to use it anyway to increase overall SNR. We've used two setups in parallel shooting at the same target, mine was my usual "portable" one with the Takahashi Epsilon 210 and the one of Maurizio has a Takahashi TSA 102 coupled with a SBIG 8300 on a 10Micron GM2000HPS.

Thogheter we've collected more tha 9 hours of luminance data and about 2 hours of each RGB channel.

Description: Having had no time for getting new images, I've completely re-edit this image to get more dust and less stars presence for this subject. Since it was a collaboration acquired with two different scopes, I've used star removal tools and separate editing for the object and stars. What You think?

Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.
Promotions by Submitters When 3 distinct Submitters promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for Top Pick status. This requirement, in addition to anonymization of images and distribution to only a subset of them, prevents biases and ensures that the best images are selected.
Promotions by Reviewers When 3 distinct Reviewers promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for IOTD status.
Early dismissal Staff members have a lot of images to inspect on a daily basis, and they can dismiss images if they believe they don't meet the requirements for IOTD/TP selection. If an image is dismissed 5 times, it's removed from the process. This streamlines the process and ensures that any bias present in promotions could be overruled by other staff members.
