Description

NGC 7293, the Helix Nebula in Aquarius, from remote scope in Chile. This jpg is cropped out of a much larger field of view of stars and tiny galaxies. Imaged remotely multiple nights, R, G, B filters, July - Sept 2019, Rio Hurtado, Chile, Takahashi TOA-150 Apochromatic (1100mm focal length, 150mm aperture) telescope.

L = 27x 900s

R = 18x 900s

G = 20x 900s

B = 27x 900s

Description: Added L data. Deconvolution didn’t help much without making the data worse so I backed out deconvolution on the L and just did a bit of sharpening bias in MSLT along with linear noise reduction. After stretching and combining L and RGB I did LocalHistogramEqualization then TVGDenoise with the levels turned way down, below 2.

Description: Cropped and adjusted Curves. Did some mild SCNR on Green pixels in stars and instantly realized from the result that removing most or all the green from the center of the nebula is a common processing practice in examples of this nebula. After considering this result, I redid the SCNR for the final version at an even lower strength.

Description: Final crop taking into account as many small galaxies and stars around the edges while trying to close up on the visible nebula as much as possible. Less SCNR of green pixels in this version, just a touch to knock some green out of the yellow stars.
