Description

I borrowed an Esprit 120ED (and have since purchased it) to see if it works well on my EQ6-R Pro and got it setup for first light tonight.  Did all the things I needed then went for M42.  Why?  I've imaged it before and thought I'd be done with it this season.  But my astronomy club is doing a quarterly challenge and M42 is the target right now.  Plus with new optics I thought it would be great to see what it looks like.

So I did my setup and slewed to M42 and was able to get 1 or 2 subs (5min) each RGB, not enough to stack.  So this is the first of each filter, warts and all.  I didn't bother doing any calibration and didn't try to remove the satellite trails.  It'll be interesting to get more data, maybe some Ha to define the dust better!

Overall I'm pleased with the Esprit 120ED on the EQ6-R Pro mount.  I need to do better PA but was able to guide under 1" RMS and it got closer to 0.7" as it went on.  Which is on par at Dec 0* with what I got before with half the focal length.  I have bearings coming to tune the mount and am seriously thinking about a pier so I can spend time on PA and really get it dialed in.
