Description

This SNR is located 5000 light years away in the constellation of Auriga at a declination of +52 degrees.  It spans about 1.5 degrees in our apparent view.  This corresponds to a diameter of about 130 light years.

The SNR is primarily HII signal but there is some OIII present.  The image is a HOO palette with RGB stars added.

The unique appearance of this object is because of the foreground Taurus Auriga dust complex, which is much closer at about 300 light years away.  The numerous LDN dark nebulae look like they are part of the SNR, but there are much closer to us.

I first saw this SNR when posted by my friend @Göran Nilsson  earlier this year.  Please see his excellent image here.
