Description

My sky was not that great. When I went outside to set up my equipment the sky appeared clear. However after I began imaging it became apparent that there were high, misty clouds moving around. I had to trash more than half of my light frames because of clouds and some that I used for processing were probably questionable. I had several problems last night which I won't bother to go into. When I finished imaging last night and began to pack up my equipment I noticed that I had not taken the lens cap off my guiding scope. I imaged the entire night with the lens cap covering the scope. However my PHD2 guiding software was showing me a nice star field. I selected what I thought would be a good guide star. I did the normal calibration etc, etc, etc. The software gave me every indication that it was guiding. However that sort of confuses me. How could the software be guiding when there was a lens cap on the guide scope. Just thinking logically I would have thought that when I connected to the camera I would have had a blank screen with no stars in it or some kind of error message. I'll be the first to admit that there is a lot that I do not understand with this hobby. The thought does cross my mind whether or not I've been guiding on a star that I picked all along. Anyway please enjoy my most recent image of M78.
