Description

This object is a barred low surface brightness galaxy located 60 million light years away in the constellation of Hercules at a declination of +37 degrees. This galaxy spans 3.5 arc-minutes in our apparent view, which corresponds to a diameter of 60,000 light years.

I find the structure of this blue galaxy to be very interesting. It looks primarily like a barred grand design spiral, with 2 strong arms, seen close to edge-on. Except that the top arm also extends to the right. The net effect is that the central bar is offset a bit to the left.

Numerous small star clusters are visible throughout the disk. A bright blue star cloud, possibly a galaxy companion, is at the left edge of the disk. If it is a small galaxy, as indicated by SIMBAD, it could be enough of an influence to create the interesting arm structure.
