Description

This recently discovered (2005) small faint planetary nebula, designated IPHASX J205013.7 + 465518, is located in the constellation of Cygnus at a declination of +47 degrees.  The bright inner region spans 1 arc-minute in our apparent view.

I thought this PN is called the Ear Nebula because the bright inner region looks like an ear, but actually that region is just the ear hole.  The larger faint structure is the outer outline of the "ear".

I do not see a progenitor star and, in general, the nebula does not look like a typical PN.   But better images from larger telescopes show that the inner region has filaments and bipolar outflow, which is only hinted at in mine.

The nebula is surrounded by a background of faint HII nebulosity.
