Description

This one has been a real struggle, and I’ve had several goes at capturing Orion in all his winter glory. It seems that flats, as well as the weather have been against me.

Imaging with a 28mm camera lens is challenging with little focus depth, and aberrations common around the field edges. Overall I’m quite pleased with this combined UV/IR and L-pro to pick out a bit of Orion’s rustic cloak.

Standing proud in my revision, a few well know nebulae are visible along with the reddish Betelgeuse, and brighter Rigel and belt (tinged blue in my achromatic lens). The Great Orion Nebula, a tiny running man, horse head and flame, and I even see a faint Angelfish at Orion’s head. Barnard’s loop is obvious.

Captured using my Stellarmate, stacked and combined in Siril. I had used a small homemade dew shield and dew heater to warm the exposed lens, but this has been causing flares and gradients with flat frames. New flats and flat darks without this gave good results. GradXpert AI did the rest, although some banding in the final result.

Anyway, I’ve spent too much time on this already, and present the hunter in at least some of his finery.
