Description

Raw frames courtesy of Deep Sky West Remote Observatory in New Mexico, USA. (deepskywest.com) Data obtained with FSQ 106EDXiii / QSI683wsg / Lodestar / Paramount MyT.

24.75 hrs total integration (18x900s R, 15x900s G, 17x900s B, 17x900s L, and 16x1800s H-alpha). The palette is RGBL with H-alpha adding in some H-II regions at just 20%.

Processing in PixInsight.

[ to my eyes, I see a touch of green. But there is no green. I think it is the juxtaposition of blue starburst regions next to H-II regions, and seen through dust lanes. ]

I think we are fooling ourselves to see individual blue stars in the image of the galaxy. Those must be clumps and clusters of stars where the O-B stars win out with their brightness. Individual stars would just merge into a diffuse haze like we see in the outer reaches of the arms.
