Description

Melotte 20 / Collinder 39, better known as the Alpha Persei Moving Group, is one of the nicest views with naked eyes or small binoculars at a dark site. Alpha Persei (Mirfak) lies at the NW edge of a cloud of silvery glitter, which resolves easily even in the smallest bino into an assembly of mostly bluish-white B-type stars, arranged in a conspicuous S-shape. Mirfak, the brightest member, has a creamy-white look. The one orange-tinted star along the southern reach of the S-curve, Sigma Per, is not a member of the group, but a foreground star at half the distance.

Final Version B with some more colour saturation.
