Description

I had trouble deciding what to image tonight. The Moon directly above was washing out a lot of

the sky. I couldn't see a lot of the dimmer constellations. There was also a lot of moisture in

the air. I actually wanted to image M3 or M5 because of their location and their brightness. I

felt that I would have more luck with a globular cluster because of the Moon. However both

M3 and M5 were not high enough in the sky yet for me to image them. Finally I chose to image

M51 because it was farther away from the Moon than anything else I could think of. I've not

imaged it with my Orion ED80 refractor and I wanted to see how the scope does with this

object. I realized once I started imaging that I was not going to capture much of the dusty

nebulosity associated with this object because of the brightness of the moon and the moisture

in the air. I could barely see M51 in my eyepiece because of sky conditions. With all of that said I did get an image of M51 just not the greatest M51 that I've ever seen. Please enjoy.
