Description

These Astrobin Debut Objects is located in the constellation of Camelopardalis at a declination of +7 degrees.   The pair of magnitude 13 galaxies are located at different distances from us and are not interacting.

At right, NGC 2347 is a beautiful spiral galaxy located 300 million light years away.  It spans 1.7 arc-minutes in our apparent view.  This corresponds to a large diameter of 140,000 light years.  The galaxy disk is about halfway between face-on and edge-on in our apparent view.  I like the chaotic arm structure.  Several disruptions and bright regions in the disk could be companions causing disturbance.

On the left is IC 2179, an elliptical galaxy located 200 million light years away.  It is smaller, at about 90,000 light years in diameter.

An odd, interesting small galaxy (LEDA 2670632) is seen at lower right.
