Description

This is my very first attempt at a mosaic image. It is five panels of the Rosette Nebula, painstakingly stitched together with much difficulty. Due to the varying quality of the subframes in each wavelength, achieving a reasonable color balance was a real problem. I learned through this process that all the data for each wavelength on each frame needs to be taken under similar moonlight and altitude conditions. As this data took two months to gather, I didn't do nearly enough planning of the mosaic to enable smooth stitching. Every hour of planning I didn't do resulted in two or three hours of work on the computer after the fact. I hope to be able to go back to the Rosette yet this year and reacquire the OIII and SIII data, paying much closer attention to these details.
