Description

The Crescent Nebula (NGC 6888, Caldwell 27, Sharpless 105) is an emission nebula that lies 5000 light-years from Earth in a crowded region of the Cygnus Milky Way.   The nebula arises from the bright star near the center of the image, which is the Wolf-Rayet star WR 136 (HD192163).

Nearby and just barely visible in this image,  is the very faint outline of the "Soap Bubble" nebula.  (Below little halfway between the Crescent Nebula and the bottom of the image and slighty right of the Crescent Nebula)  The Soap Bubble Nebula (also known as PN G075. 5+01.7) is a planetary nebula in the constellation Cygnus, near the Crescent Nebula (NGC 6888). It was discovered by amateur astronomer Dave Jurasevich.
