Description

This planetary nebula is located 4200 light years away in the constellation of Cygnus at a declination of +51 degrees.  It is a magnitude 9.6 PN whose bright central region spans 30 arc-seconds in our apparent view.  This corresponds to a diameter of 0.7 light years.  The dim outer halo is 2.3 arc-minutes wide and 3 light years in diameter.

Like many PN, the nebula is dominated by OIII throughout.  The progenitor star appears to be the small whitish star at the center of the nebula.

The eye-like central region earns it the nickname of the Blinking Planetary and the Blinking Eye Nebula.  The progenitor star is surrounding by an oval inner ring.  A mid-region oval rim is also seen, and between the two rings at upper right and lower left on opposite sides of the progenitor star are a bright region and a reddish knot/ansae.
