Description

As many of you probably know, the weather in Europe this winter was absolutely horrendous. Added by the fact, that we also commonly get fogged out in winter, it meant almost no clear skies for me since November! In fact, I started shooting this target in November.
However, due to my weather, spring was fast approaching and I still didn't manage to shoot any meaningfull RGB data. Since I'm shooting from a city, even if I'm not centrally located, I still need many hours of integration time to punch through my lightpollution.
Later, in Februrary, my prayers for clear skies where finally heard! Out of sheer luck, I happened to have a week off during that time, so I decided to go travel somewhere dark to finally once and for all finish this project. With all of my equipemnt, I went into the german alps, to a perfect Bortle 3 darksite with no cities or even towns for miles in the direction of the horsehead. Furthermore, dense fog covered up many parts of the cities to my north. The view of the nightsky was truely breathtaking that night. I don't own a SQM reader, but I'm certain, that the conditions may have even been Bortle 2 that night.

With all that beeing said, I'm extremely eager to share with you all my own rendition of this extremely popular target. I am very happy with this result (even if Alnitak was a huge pain to process ;)). With IC434 being checked off my bucketlist, I can finally focus on more exotic targets for the next season of astro in winter.

Title: High-res Revision

Description: For some reason my original upload was compressed , which is odd, since i don't upload low res anywhere.

It seems that astrobin isn't displaying this full res unless downloaded (which probably is locked to my account, in any case, pls let me know if this image looks off in full res view)
