Description

This is the first light of my new scope, a fast wide field Sharpstar Hypergraph which replaces my RedCat51 setup. I found the RedCat with it's focal ratio of f/4.9 a bit slow in combination with narrowband imaging, so I hope the new setup will do better at f/2.8. Unfortunately, because of the bandshift involved in narrowband imaging, I had to retire the very good 3nm Optolong L-Ultimate filter and replaced it with the (at that time) only available high-speed dual narrowband filter - the Antlia 5nm ALP-T Highspeed. I was very curious how the new filter will perform, so it was clear that the first target will be an emission nebula.

After a couple weeks of waiting, a single clear night gave me the opportunity to run the new setup. I spent the first hours of the night on dialing in tilt and backfocus, but it was freezing cold so I stopped it at some point and used the rest of the night for imaging.

Postprocessing of the data was challenging as the data quality was not great. The weather was dusty, the object was low on the sky and tilt and backfocus were not fully dialed in. Thanks to the modern processing tools most of the issues could be addressed by software. Hope you enjoy the image!
