Description

The star clusters and associated nebulosity NGC 2467 are located in the constellation Puppis at about -26.5 degrees declination. The star clusters Haffner 18 (left center) and Haffner 19 (upper left, surrounded by orb of nebulosity) and many foreground stars of contrasting colors make for a very pretty image. This part of the sky is also of interest as a star-forming region. The white-blue star in Haffner 18 that has a tiny cocoon of nebulosity around it is FM3060a, a very young star that is believed to be only 1 to 2 million years old. The nebulosity shown is part of the larger nebulous region Sharpless 2-311.
