Description

The bad weather continues and with spring approaching it looks as if I will not get any astrophotography this winter. So I have again downloaded some data from the Moana Project to try and keep in practice and to make at least one more nice image before the weather clears.

I used Blur X, first before anything else, the Noise Xterm on just the SII channel which was the only one that needed any in the linear state. GHS was used for the stretch of the narrow band data and just an applied STF stretch on the RGB channels to grab the stars later.  Star Xterm to make the starless image to work on. I used NoiseXterm as required at lower strength than default to control the noise brought up by the processes. Some LHE and HDR and and some sharpening with a small bit of Dark Structure Enhance at the very end of processing. Then a recombine with the RGB stars to make the final image. I needed to do no color enhancement to the starless image just some work on the detail and the contrast and a bit of sharpening at the end.

The Rosette Nebula is one of my favorites and I wish I could have shot it this winter as a four or six panel mosaic but it was not to be.

Thanks again to theMoana Project for the fine data.
