Description

The dark spots surrounding the lunar crater Alphonsus are intriguing features that have captured the attention of lunar enthusiasts and researchers. Alphonsus is a large impact crater located on the Moon's near side, and it is surrounded by a region known as Alphonsus Dark Halo or Alphonsus Inner Ring. These dark spots are believed to be the result of volcanic activity, with dark basaltic lava flows covering the surface. The dark halo around Alphonsus is in contrast to the brighter lunar highlands and is thought to be relatively young, estimated to be around 1 billion years old.
