Description

NGC1841 is the southernmost globular cluster in the sky. It was formerly thought to be associated with the Milky Galaxy, but is now understood to belong to the LMC. As such, it is located at a significant distance (153,000 ly) and appears small and faint from Earth, with a diameter of just 2.4" and a magnitude of about 12. In this image, only larger and cooler orange-yellow stars can be clearly resolved against the integrated glow of the cluster itself.

Imaged as part of a project to photograph all NGC and IC objects south of DEC -80 degrees, this is also a First on Astrobin - AstroBin object.
